Copenhagen Part 2!

Ok as promised here are the rest of my snaps from my thrifting hours in Copenhagen! You all know how much I love tins! Check out this beautiful selection, WHY DID I NOT BUY ANY?????

My favourite tin in the picture below has to be the middle one with the horses.

Loved the yellow tea set so much but did not have room in my suitcase for it, thats the one very tricky thing about thrifting abroad, you always see things that you can't take home!

I had a great time looking and thrifting but the rain did come on so I left and travelled back into the city centre where I came accross a great little coffee and cupcake shop called - Serenity Cupcakes.

Everything seemed to be freshly baked on the premises and the smell was amazing!!

I could not decide what cake flavour to go for!

I ended up picking an Oreo cake and a huge cappuccino that looked like a planet!

Afterwards I window shopped, I was amazed at how stylish all the shops and shop windows are, most of them had candles out on the doorsteps and were open until late, I wish this happened in the UK!

Loved these small chairs in this shop window, wish I had caught the name of the shop!

I also bought myself some flowers from the flower market, how could I resist???

When can I visit again?????

Thrifting in Copenhagen

Hello everybody! I feel as if the Vintage lassies' blog has been neglected slightly but all will be revealed soon! In September I went to Copenhagen and came across the most amazing Flea market where I found some great bargains and managed to do some early Christmas shopping. I have been saving these photographs until now, feast your eyes on these goodies and keep a look out for part 2 of this blog as there were too many photographs from which to choose!

Where has the time gone?!

Backstage at the Mobo's on October the 5th - what a night!

As part of Nuz Shugaa's relaxing make-up area backstage for the stars, we B&T girls set up our VW Campervan and handed out Brewhaha teas in our vintage china cups.

Hannah Kidston was also helping us on the night, she was ACE!

Fave amongst the performers was the refreshing Brewhaha Peppermint tea and also the Rose tea.

Our stand attracted lots of attention (that Campervan knows how to play to a crowd!) Even Mr Hudson came up for a cuppa before going on stage!

Our 'access all areas' passes inabled us to see JLS present Boyz II Men with their award and also mingle with other stars, brushing shoulders with Jessie J and Dappy and chatting with the band 'Boyz II Men'.

At the end of the evening we knocked on Ms Dynamites dressing room door. She was charming and invited us in for a photo opportunity. She was delighted with our gift of vintage cups and saucers, complete with a couple of cupcakes from The little Cupcake Parlour!

Hooray! Butler and Taylor got a wee mention in the Autumn issue of The Best Scottish Weddings magazine!

Read all about Lindsay and Steven's real-life wedding in the current issue. We had a rare old time seeing our vintage teapots being used as vases at the Finnie's wedding in April, Betsy the VW Campervan was also used on the day and we were spinning 78's on the gramophone during the drinks reception!

Wedding Fayre Fun!

Had a very busy day last Sunday at The Glasgow Girls Wedding Fayre at Partick Burgh Halls in Glasgow. Helping set out the china was Lindsey Finnie who hired our china for her own vintage-inspired wedding, earlier this year, so she was able to give a first-hand account to customers, as well as show them images of her wedding on her ipad. See below a romantic pic of Mr and Mrs Finnie with the Butler and Taylor VW Campervan! Photograph taken by Christopher Currie. We hope to blog about this wonderful wedding soon!

Lisa from The Little Cupcake Parlour supplied the beautiful cakes which we had to sample, of course - ending up with edible glitter all over our faces!

I managed to sneak off to visit the other exhibitors, seeing some familiar faces and making some new friends.

Tried this loveheart tablet (see below) from the Sixpenny Blue Studio. As well as making favours they also make some lovely handmade stationery.

Nearby our stand was the LookLook Digital Photobooth - lots of fun and lots of props to play with. Guests at your wedding would love this!

Also present, one of my favourite businesses - E.Y.ILOVE This lovely couple make the most coolest wedding invites around. Claire and I have mentioned them before and it's worth revisiting their website and blog again - they are always adding new designs.

We have a new website!

Goodness me, Butler and Taylor have been busy! As you probably all know, we have finally launched our new website! Yeeha! Claire and I are very proud of our site (designed by Sinewave Design) and we hope that everyone finds it inspiring and exciting. Here is a snap shot -

Last weekend we had a fun day at an intimate wedding fayre at the Ghillie Dhu in Edinburgh, hosting a stall displaying our own vintage wares for hire as well as our friend Julie's delightful cupcakes.

Our vintage china teacups and saucers were also used for teas and coffees at the bar. See below photographs of the charming barmen with our china and all the lovely people drinking tea from our cups. Sorry for the flash photography - the Ghillie Dhu is a wonderful venue but the subdued lighting did not help my photography!

Claire's gramophone DJing during the bridal fashion show was also well received.

We met lots of other interesting business's on the day and particularly loved the Miss Dixiebelle bunch, they have a Vintage boutique in Edinburgh which you must visit and at the Ghillie Dhu last Sunday they were demonstrating retro hair styles and make up, they also had vintage style wedding dresses on show on the catwalk!

It doesn't stop there - this weekend Butler and Taylor will be at The Glasgow Girls Wedding Fayre in Partick Burgh Halls, Glasgow. See you there on Sunday the 4th of September, 12 noon.

Glorious 39

Did anyone watch the British thriller 'Glorious 39' last night on BBC 2? This Pre-War drama written and directed by Stephen Poliakoff must have passed me by when it came out in 2009. I don't normally watch thrillers but found myself gripping my patchwork blanket as the plot unravelled!

Thrilling though it was, for me the highlights were the amazing costumes worn by the main character, Anne Keyes (played by Romola Garia).

In each scene she looked incredible. I had major wardrobe envy for 1930's and 1940's fashion. I managed to find a selection of some of Anne's outfits from the film.

Mismatched Chairs

Mismatched chairs

There is something really nice about things not matching. As you know Claire and I love unmatched tea sets and I have realised that I seem to take this idea into everything I have around me, cushions, frames, plant pots, earrings, even socks! My Mother always says that ever since I was little I loved to mix bold colours together. In my opinion the more things that clash the better! I don't have any rules when it comes to my wardrobe - navy and black can team up, spots and stripes together and double denim is a treat!

My new obsession is to find mismatched chairs for my dining table in my flat. At the moment we have four matching Ikea chairs. Every time I look at them I feel as if I am living in a showroom! I hope to change this by sourcing four very different chairs, modern and vintage, watch this space!

Dessert tables with a difference!

Wedding season has truly kicked off this summer and us vintage lassies have been very busy with all things Butler and Taylor the past few weeks! We have been gathering all our best vintage china and props for hen nights, and wedding dates all over the country. Last weekend we had a bride and groom hire 15 of our three tier cake stands to place in the middle of each of their tables! We can't wait to see the photographs!

We also have requests for cake stands of all different heights and shapes for dessert tables at weddings and events, this idea of a display of treats is becoming more and more popular as people are moving away from the traditional wedding cake and having a selection of lots of different cakes, tarts, sweets or even cheese!

Claire and I are really proud of our cake stand collection as it is all 100% vintage, our stands range from the 1920's classic art deco style to the 1950's bright florals. We also have bunting and all sorts of weird and wonderful props available for hire.

I managed to find some amazing snaps of creative dessert tables where people have used domes, cake stands, glass jars and all sorts of props to create eye-catching feasts! I love the way people are stepping out from the norm and showing their personalities. Enjoy the snaps, click on some to enlarge as they have so much detail. Let me know which one is your favourite!

Oh Sew Vintage Real Life Wedding: Yellow Wedding Shoes, Wind-up Gramophones, Vintage Tea cups and Bobbin Table Plans

I have to say, being involved in such a beautiful wedding with Butler & Taylor was a real honour! I loved the day from start to end (see below for doting facial expression of awe!)– I arrived to chauffeur the bridal party in our VW campervan …

then went onto Gramophone DJ …

and then proudly watched happy guests sip from our lovely sets of teacups and admire flower displays in teapots on the beautifully designed tables…

I mean; this wedding was what Butler and Taylor was created for!!

I couldn’t resist asking the photographer to have a sneak peak at her pictures documenting Cassandra and Matthews special day.

Lauren di Matteo, the photographer, is from California, but loves to travel (she flew over to Dumbarton for this wedding!) and the Bride and Groom couldn’t have wished for a better result! I just love how she’s captured all those “little moments”…

Now I’m not a shoe kind of girl – but MY MY – I just LOVE these yellow numbers! What stunners!

With Cass being a seamstress bride, Lauren really understands Cass’ personality here. NO doubt this cutting board will have been used when she lovingly made her own and the bridesmaids dresses… I also love those necklaces carefully selected by Cass from Fantoosherie (an accessories label by Jennifer Fraser)! Also, for more of Cass’s designs, keep an eye on her website, coming soon for more yummy creations!

The ceremony was held at Matthews childhood home, Overton House – nestled behind Dumbarton it oozes shabby elegance. I loved it.

The whole day felt so relaxed and filled with love.

They made use of Betsy our 1971 Campervan, for their pictures, which we love!

As the evening fell, we enjoyed a road trip along towards Loch Lomond to Gartocharn Millenium Hall – a perfect spot for a romantic dinner followed by a good ole Scottish sweaty ceilidh! And the views were breathtaking…

The atmosphere was buzzing with some trusty 20’s music to be the soundtrack for what went onto be a cracking night! Spot our bunting hanging from the rafters!

The tables looked lovely and, as for the table plan! Well - it has to be my favourite! Lovingly made from bobbins and vintage inspired fabrics (which were mimicked on the table runners and napkins). Again, a Cassandra Belanger creation!

The cakes were incredible (courtesy of Anna Higham, who you may remember did our cakes for our first photo shoot)

But, it has to be said that the cheese was to die for – thanks to Lydia Higham who carefully selected some of I.J Mellis’ best cuts! Jenny and I happily gorged ourselves on this in between 78 record changes!

This is a lovely Anna Higham wedding cake complete with vintage brooch and lace and of course hanging out on the table with Butler and Taylor vintage cake knife and slice.

The day was a dream! We loved it all – and to be honest – they made us feel like guests more than “Butler and Taylor” on the job!

…And to put the icing on the cake – Cassandra is currently designing us a bespoke dress… we can’t wait to share it with you. If its anything like her wedding day creations, we’re very lucky girls! Don’t forget to keep an eye on Cassandra' Belanger’s work here.

Loving you MHOR each day…

After a few hectic months, Me and Mackay decided to give a little back to each other – part of being husband and wife and all that - so we took off on an impromptu night away to Monachyle Mhor. I say impromptu, but to be honest, I have dreamt about going here for years! I constantly go on their website and obsess, I’ve enjoyed a show round without staying once, and I’ve even driven up the long windy road to just show it to Jenny one time.

I mean, I’m pretty obsessed. SO, you will understand that this was years in the making and more a heavy persuasion than impulse! So for your viewing pleasure, and for the sole purpose of marking this momentous occasion and tenuously bracketing it under possible “vintage honeymoon” location for the benefit of this blog- here is an introduction to my weekend of Monachyle Mhor.

Our first stop was in Callander where we stopped to enjoy probably the best Fish and Chips in Scotland at Monachyle Mhor’s sister Fish Restaurant in Callander: MHOR Fish.

We then enjoyed a stunning drive along the Loch Lubnaig and Loch Voil to the hotel – where we checked in to this stunner of a room…

We decided that in order to fully enjoy our 5 course meal cooked by Tom Lewis (award winning chef); a walk was in order, so off we went in the drizzle to build up an appetite.

En route, I was excited to come across LOVESTUCK in the flesh – a vintage holiday rental through Canopy and Stars on MHOR’s farmland! With Me and Mackay being lovers of homes on wheels; we couldn’t resist a peek and decided we needed to get closer. And wow! Honeymoon-tastic! Vintage Vacation alarms ringing all around! We loved it!

We then retired to a game of scrabble and some refreshments here in my dream living room before eating ourselves stupid for dinner followed swiftly by a viewing of Bridget Jones’s Diary in our room!

We will most definitely return (once we’ve saved a lot more pennies) and thoroughly recommend any of Mhor’s beautiful eateries and stays

Its worth noting that our stay was prompted by one of their Facebook last minute deals – so be sure “like” them to keep tuned!

Give us a twirl!

Claire and I are very excited - this week we spent an evening with designer Cassandra Belanger Macindoe, discussing personalised dress designs.

Both Claire and I would like something vintage-inspired and if possible, made from vintage fabric. Cass has given us homework - we have to submit some style ideas to her by the end of the week and then she will start the design process!
I spent the morning looking at old 40's and 50's patterns for inspiration....

Sailor collars, huge pockets, oversized buttons, ribbons at the neck, bows and belts, the ideas are endless! We will keep you updated on how the garments are shaping up.

If you fancy making your own dress Cass will soon be starting her own classes, we will give info on these as soon as we hear the details.

When in Edinburgh check out this new gem of a shop in Howe Street - Homer sells mainly one off vintage furniture pieces and homeware items but yesterday I spotted vintage ribbons (you know I love ribbon!) and delightful mini sewing kits called 'Sewing Susan', just the thing to get you started!

Will I meet Don Draper?

Has anyone else seen the film 'Six Degree's of Separation ' directed by Fred Schepisi? The idea is that everyone is about six steps away from any other person, so that a chain of 'a friend of a friend' statements can be made, on average, to connect any two people in six steps or fewer.

So you can imagine my excitment when yesterday my Dad told me that his friend James has a friend in New York who is friends with Jon Hamm who plays Don Draper from Madmen! This makes me only 4 steps away from meeting Mr Draper and him fallening madly in love with me! Don't worry my boyfriend Tom is ok about this as he does not think it is likely to happen!

Can anyone out do me with their connection to Don Draper? or anyone else equally famous and exciting for that matter?

If you are not a fan already of the hit US drama Madmen I say jump on the bandwagon, the story lines are fantastic and the 50's and 60's fashion and interiors always inspire me!

You make me feel like dancing!

Spring has been a busy time for Butler and Taylor, around Scotland our tea cups have been full of good cheer - from school teachers' tea parties (with no pesky pupils of course!) to wedding tea tables where a cup of tea or coffee from a fine bone china cup is a great addition to that special day.

We hope to show you more images from these events soon but in the meantime have a snoop at these pictures sent in by Sarah Cowie from East Lothian Museum Services.

Using Butler and Taylor's china, the Museum Services held a 1940's tea dance in May with lots of cakes and tea and dancing!

This is one of my favourite action shots of our cake stands and tea cups in use.

The couple in this picture are called Susan and Gary from the Fly Right Dance Company, they are a professional dance performance and education company based in Scotland. Check out their website as they offer lots of fun dance packages for events, these range from 1910's Titanic style to Palm Court Charleston theme. Love the white gloves Susan!

Sadly we have no photographs of the museum crowd dancing, but we imagine there were scenes similar to these!

All this talk of dancing makes me want to go to a Tea Dance, anyone know the Foxtrot?

MOBO's 2011 goes Vintage with Butler & Taylor!

So, over the past week on facebook, we have been teasing you with some wee hints because at Butler & Taylor HQ - we have been BURSTING to announce that we have been approached to supply our vintage china for the prestigious MOBO awards in Glasgow in October!

And for one night only, we will also be re-visiting our waitress days by donning our 50's housewife finery to serve Teas to the stars! SO excited to think that the likes of N-Dubz or Tinie Tempah could be sipping from our vintage collection!

Big thanks to Lisa over at The Little Cup Cake Parlour for putting us forward and of course Nuz Shugaa for inviting us into her Green Room line up backstage.

Nuz Shugaa specializes in giving bespoke natural and organic facial and body spa treatments to a wide range of clientale that includes A-list performing artists and royalty! I mean ROYALTY! It's such an honour to be have been invited to serve tea from our "Royal Anne" alongside a celebrity facialist who's rejuvenated royals!

Nuz's focus is on leaving her clients skin renewed so that they will look and feel rejuvenated and ready to face the cameras on the walk down the red carpet!

Our focus in October is definitely going to be on picking our finest china, selecting the best tea and pouring from our finest teapot!

Speaking of Tea selection, we have teamed up with the super vintage "Brewhaha". We approached Brewhaha because not only do they have the best selection of teas we LOVE their vintage style - and perfectly taps into our Butler & Taylor retro soft spot!

Budapest Flea Markets and more!

We arrived in Budapest late evening and immediately I could tell that I was going to like this city!

In the morning we were happy to discover that we had a very cool cinema and cafe right on our doorstep, this was called Kino and we made this our local every morning for tea and every evening for a cold beer!

We loved the fact that there was fresh home baking (the banana and chocolate cake was the best!) and on Easter sunday the guy that worked there gave Tom and I a free chocolate rabbit each, I was delighted!

The best bit about the place was the cool art magazines you could read, the 1950's odd chairs and the Earl grey which came with a mug of honey (very popular in Hungary) that you could mix in with your tea at your leisure, this was a taste sensation, I could not believe that i had never thought about doing this before!

On our first day we set out to see the sights. We were staying in Pest but Buda was only a 10 min walk along the Danube bridge so everything was easily accessible by foot or a quick tram ride.

Can I live here?

I wish we had pavements like this in Scotland!

The next day we travelled to the Pecsa Flea market. I had heard that this market was amazing and it exceeded my expectations. I have decided to go a bit overboard and share all my market snaps because this place was so dam good, anyone heading to Budapest must check it out, lots of antiques, stamps, old medals and textiles, plus the sun shone! Why do I love tins so much?

After spending hours in the market we sunbathed in the Városliget (City Park) (sunbathing for pale me is just another word for freckles!) and then afterwards we headed to get some refreshments. I was not going to mention this place as sometimes when I discover really lovely places I love to be selfish and keep them all to myself (horrible I know) but this place was so amazing that I will spill the beans!

It was my friend Ross that told me (thank you Ross!) about it and now I want to share the details with our blog readers!

It is called Altair Teahaz and it was very hard to find (this may just of been my map reading skills!) but well worth the effort. Once inside, it was like being in a underground treehouse! You could climb up into different levels of the teahouse, take your shoes off and relax. On the menu was over 80 different types of tea to sip, we were tempted by tea but opted for homemade lemonade since it was a very hot day. Visit if you have a chance!

On our way back to our hotel we noticed two interesting shops -

One was a vintage shop called Retrock where I spotted lots of washed out denim, accessories and cool T - shirts, check out their website to read about some of the designers they stock.

The other shop that caught my eye was called Front, here I gazed at Diana cameras and cool tin toys, you can view these on there website here.

The next day we had a ride on the antique Sikló funicular railway up Castle Hill.

The same day we managed to get to Fisherman's Bastion which was designed by Frigyes Schulek.

On our last day we went to the famous Gellert Spa and baths, afterwards my skin felt amazing!

Nearby the Baths we found some great stalls selling typical Hungarian sweets and pastries so we bought some for presents.

To end our trip on a high we went for a posh lunch at the famous Central cafe.

Thrifting in Vienna

The last time we posted Royal wedding fever was in the air, we have just about recovered from all the tea, cake and cava that was consumed during the celebrations!

Helen Potter sent this picture in of her friends Claire and Colin. We think it is fantastic!

This month has been very busy for Butler and Taylor, we have supplied our china for tea parties and Gramophone DJ’d at weddings. Hopefully we will have some photographs from some of these events to post up soon for all to see.

I also managed to squeeze in a wee holiday over Easter for my birthday. Tom took me to Vienna and Budapest. Here on the blog I want to share some holiday snaps and my market discoveries!

We arrived in Vienna first and were eager beavers to discover what the city had to offer! I always believe the best way to explore a new place is by visiting a market. You find all sorts of differents foods and objects that you would not find back home.

We were lucky to find that the Naschmarkt was not far away from our hotel, this is Austria’s largest market and has been there since the 16th century.

The market is open all week but weekends are best as they have a flea market which starts at 6am! It sold everything from flowers to fish and there was plenty cool places to get a beer.

After major hints Tom bought me a bunch of the deep pink tulips!!

As you can guess my favourite bit was the flea market, here are some pictures to give you an idea –

I treated myself to a beautiful collection of ribbons and a little case!

If you do visit the Naschmarkt don’t forget to look up, very nearby are two remarkable apartment buildings. Designed by Otto Wagner in 1899. Imagine living there!

On the way home I had to have an Aida hot chocolate and sweet, just what I needed after a hard day at a flea market!

The next day we hung out at the museum quarter.

Tom had a nap in a plastic hammock!

They also had a fantastic art book shop called Walther König Books, I think I spent two hours in this shop!

The next morning I trotted of to see some art as Tom had to work. I got to The Belvedere gallery which hosts the largest Gustav Klimt collection. The famous golden painting - The Kiss was on show and lots of his other paintings. I particulary liked this one -

I think it is because I really want her jumper!

The current exhibition is the Egon Schiele - Self-Portraits and Portraits, which I recommend if you happen to be in Austria. It is on until the 13th of June 2011. I have always loved his drawings.

Here is a view from one of the gallery windows – Vienna is BEAUTIFUL it is a fact!

In the afternoon I took the tram to a huge secondhand warehouse called Carla.

It felt like I was entering Ikea but instead it was filled with everything old and interesting. It was incredible and full to the brim with furniture, books and all sorts of stuff. Everything was reasonable. Here are some of my snaps which I took on the sneak!

After being on my feet all day I decided to have a rest in the most delightful tea house called Sussi Salon de The Francais. The owner was from Paris and he told me he offered over 400 teas in his cafe! I really wanted to be adventurous and try a different tea but I must confess that I ordered my staple favourite Earl Grey – just the thing when you are parched!

The next day Tom was free so we made our way to the Easter Market at Schönbrunn Palace where we had heard that there was a huge Easter market happening, on our way I spotted the most amazing bike cover! Can anyone tell me where to get one of these? I looked in Vienna but had no luck, I would love one for my bike, I may have to make one.....

We made it to the market and I was overwhelmed by the amount of handmade eggs I saw, feast your eyes on these photographs –

There was also lots of crazy Easter related goods such as these owls and rabbits, I tried to convince Tom that one of the hedgehog ornaments would look great in our livingroom but he was not keen!

Afterwards we were all Easter- egged out so we travelled back into the city centre and had a drink in the famous American bar.

It was designed by the Austrian architect, Adolf Loos. Cool and compact with great cocktails! Find the bar at 10 Karntner Durchgang.

When we returned back to our hotel I had a birthday surprise waiting for me, Tom had bought me a Sachertorte (top noche Austrian chocolate cake) and Opera tickets! Two things you must try when in Vienna.

The next morning we drank coffee at the Cafe Museum which was once the haunt of well known artists and writers.

I can honestly say this is one of the best coffees I have ever had!

We took AGES to decide which cake to share......

Tom is pleased with our cake choice!

After we polished off our cake it was time to catch the train to Budapest, more market adventures to follow…..

A Right Royal Knees-up!

We British have never really needed an excuse to have a tea party.

On Friday the 29th many of us will be enjoying a day off work and raising our tea cups to toast the happy couple, Butler and Taylor will most definitely be getting out our finest china for the big occasion!

Vintage Claire gets hitched in 4 Months!

You may remember my first blog post “a vintage vacation with a ring” where me and Mackay got engaged in a wet field somewhere in Wales.

Well, 4 months later, we went and got hitched in my local village in the Lake District. (without a hitch) - ‘scuse pun! :)

During my wedding planning, I was asked by Beth at The Best Scottish Weddings to take a diary of how I organised the wedding in four months!

So in the latest edition I have written an honest account of “being a short lead bride”; revealing plenty of DIY bride tips, Butler and Taylor vintage inspired wedding elements and all to the backdrop of Mirrorbox Photography shots; which are already leaving me with a rosy glow of nostalgia for our lovely day!

Sundays are for Lovers

We were both extremely excited to be taking part in The Fabulous Wedding Show at The Thistle Hotel in Glasgow on Sunday the 5th of March 2011.

The Hotel was full to the brim with wonderful exhibitors, all bringing their wedding ideas to loved up brides and grooms to be. We brought a selection of our Vintage china; filling teapots with flowers and stacking our cake stands with delicious cakes made lovingly by The Little Cake Parlour.

They took on our request to have vintage shades of duck egg blue and raspberry pink for the icing and there was also edible sugar paper butterflies, roses as well as edible glitter on top. These tasted as good as they looked - I had to stop Claire from stealing too many from the display!!

We were also chuffed to be seated next to another vintage lass; Lisa from The Kennedy Cupcakes - a 1940's/1950's dancing troupe who perform show stopping dance routines at weddings and events.

Lisa told us that she can provide dance lessons for hen parties and for couples wanting to perfect that all important first dance with a twist! We thought this was a great idea! Lisa also kindly looked after our display while we sneaked off to watch the fashion show where her Kennedy Cupcakes preformed a routine to perfection! Their costumes and hair styles were amazing.

We had some lovely conversations with couples planning their big day, who all wanted something different. Two of our most popular items - vintage typewriter (used as a guestbook at weddings) and our gramophone (we can DJ too!) were all display on Sunday and were well admired.

We listened to some 78 records and the chauffeur from 'Littles chauffeur drive' told us about the first 78's he owned! He also let me sit in one of Littles' Vintage Rolls Royces, I felt as if I was in a scene from Downton Abbey - so much fun!

Another unique car at the fayre was owned by 'V8 Chauffeured Drive'- this was a bright strawberry red 57'Chevy BelAir all the way from America! What a way to arrive at your wedding, you would certainly make an entrance!

At one point in the day I managed to have a peak at Little Botanicas table, Claire and I love her style of fresh and natural flowers. We think her flowers would look perfect in our teapots or vintage vases. I also love her biodegradable confetti, once sprinkled on the ground it may even plant a seed!

It was lovely to meet so many couples and to be able to make suggestions for their wedding plans. Must sign off now and get polishing the china and cranking up the gramophone! Booking Season has begun!

Tea for Two

Today my lovely friend Anna and I decided to treat ourselves to tea and cake at Loopy Lorna's Tea House in Edinburgh.

What a treat! The Tea House was jam packed when we arrived but we only had to stand for 5 minutes or so before being seated. Vintage Teapots are on display, all the staff are cheerful and wear pretty aprons and everyone is chattering loudly - just as a proper Tea House should be!

We opted for a HUGE teapot full to the brim of Loopy Lorna's Morning Tea which came with a rather delightful hand-knitted tea cosy which we think was a goldfish design. Our pot fuelled us with several refills and stayed warm so for £3.95 between us and about 6 cups of tea I think that thats a bargain!

We sipped our tea from fine bone china tea cups similar to Butler and Taylor's hire range, which as you know I believe makes all the difference to drinking tea!

The choice of cake was difficult for Anna and I, I think we stood at the counter for at least 10 minutes oohing and aahing at all the different types of sponges and cupcakes! There were just too many choices!

In the end Anna decided to go for a homemade toasted scone with jam and butter and I went for my trusty favourite – Victoria Sponge at £3.25 a slice. However this was so huge that Anna had to help me eat it!

It was fun being a Morningside lady for the afternoon, on my next visit I must try their high tea which looked very tasty. I will be wearing my twin set and pearls, see you there!

The Vintage Bride Brigade, Vintage Inspiration and Our New China Cabinet!

Inside the glorious Pollokshields Burgh Hall and with the help of some strapping men, hot tea and some lovely vintage china and props….

…we transformed a beautiful wood panelled corner into a Butler and Taylor Vintage haven for the first Glasgow Girls Wedding Fayre

ooo, and do you like our new cabinet?

Our Vintage Guestbook and Gramophone DJ Vintage Props were on display – you can find out more here!

We came across some amazing vintage themed wedding ideas with gorgeous stationery from e.y.i. love, Glasgow based wedding stationers and print studio.

And not forgetting the lovely Sara of Margolily who creates stunning headpieces from feather and jewels with a hint of vintage throughout.

Plus, we loved her table display, which incorporated some vintage props. Much like Butler and Taylor’s old favourites, Mirrorbox Photography, with their vintage camera collection on show…

…Most importantly we met so many vintage inspired brides, all with lovely engagement stories and ideas for their weddings which makes us all fuzzy inside and very excited! We can’t wait for our wares to be part of more people’s special day… until next time.

The Lakes and the Ladies that Tea

Hello there! And thank you to all our new followers; so lovely to know that we have some fellow vintage vixens out there! We’ve had a busy few months but crazy to think that our last post was back in Oct! HOW TIME FLIES!

Butler and Taylor – our new business hiring out vintage tableware (which you can read more about here) has been bubbling away over the past months with logo design, website prep and our vintage tea sets have even had a few outings over the past months.

Interestingly, two of these outings were just over the border in The Lakes; The first of which was at a new vintage tinged Fayre at Rheged called Nostalgia Meets Design, (which you may remember from this post) and the second for a hire for a 50th vintage tinged Birthday Tea Party.

Now let’s be honest; Nostalgia Meets Design was as much an excuse for us to have first dibs on some of the amazing vintage items for sale as it was a justifiable business reason for Butler and Taylor to talk about tea, vintage china and cakes all day.

And although we were south of the border, we were pleasantly surprised that our stall neighbour was Hannah Louise Lamb Jewellery from Edinburgh.

Her items were lovely and we hope to be bumping into her soon, as the banter was a flowing! We hope our partners will be familiarising themselves with her store as we’ve definitely been dropping hints to them where to buy some precious wares! Seriously stunning stuff!

Other people who we were delighted came said hi to us (and we do hope to see north of the border soon) was vintage crafter and Made in the Shade buddy Leah Halliday, whose blog we recommend: Click here for her “I need that for my home” items and crafty goodness.

We were so excited by the enthusiasm about our vintage hire business from everyone, so thank you (and looking forward to potential bride and photoshoot/prop opportunities!) Fingers crossed for another Nostalgia Meets Design next year. Worth the scenic drive (and cake), for sure!

A week later, we were so proud to be hiring our wares for a lady to create her own vintage themed 50th birthday. The settings looked super and we thought you’d like a little sneak peak at the tables she set and the guests adorning their favourite vintage wardrobe!

Next time the cups and saucers had an outing after these pics was Claire’s wedding… more on that soon!!!

Nostalgia Meets Design

This weekend we are off on an adventure in our VW campervan down to the Lake District to take part in an exclusive Nostalgia Meets Design fair at Rheghed.

We’re excited to be involved in this vintage inspired event – and I am particularly impressed with Gwen for pushing this forward in the rural lake district, to showcase some of the local talent. It’s a real privilege to be involved, so if anyone fancies a trip out at the weekend, Penrith is a scenic 1 half hour drive from Glasgow and Edinburgh…

There’ll be designers/makers inspired by nostalgia, alongside vintage clothes, jewellery, accessories, homeware and furniture. There will also be plenty of cake in their very own tea room (vintage china included). Scrumptious homemade cakes, vintage china and music from a bygone era. Sounds good to us!

Aside from easting cake, we are setting up our own vintage stall and will be sharing some vintage ware and kitchenlia that we’ve picked up on our own vintage travels!

We have a feeling we may come back with more than we take though, especially when I saw this little red number from Vintage Revival:

Mirrorbox, Teacups and Project Vintage!

So we know its been a while since the last blog.
Claire’s busy planning the wedding …
which I decided to do this year! Nice one me! Three months to plan “our perfect day” is a challenge (but an exciting one at that) – add to that an overexcited mother and a winter day date to contend with, and I’ll be a happy lady if I come out the other side with my head in tact!
Jenny on the other hand has been busy quilting away (vintage fabrics of course!) between art projects and Zumba – quilt display on here soon, we hope! :-)
But more importantly we’ve both been brewing up a storm of vintage tea cups and we’re very excited to share it with you!

So. Butler & Taylor is our new vintage china hire venture! We’ve been collecting vintage treasures all year and our plan is to unleash our lovely tableware and vintage accessories to the vintage vixens of Scotland and beyond!
Weddings, photo shoots, product launches, events, hen parties, tea dances! You name it and we are ready with a scary amount of teacups (and cake stands, tea pots..), a lovely paced campervan and our smiley faces eager to deliver and create an event with a difference!
We feel the best way to share our love of vintage tableware is to give you a glimpse into our recent photo shoot which took place in the beautiful house and garden of Bob and Anna situated in Glasgow’s west end – who kindly opened their door to us for the day!

None of this would have been possible of course, without the experienced click of shutters from Sam and Sequoia of the amazing Mirrorbox Photography! Love love love their stuff – so be sure to check it!

We had fun assembling cups in bike baskets, teapots on radiators and linen on stairs….

a VINTAGE VACATION with a RING

Well, this is us.
This is Me (Claire) and Him (Mackay) (…“meant for each other. Sent for each. And likin’ it so…”)
and Betsy. Of course.
She is our vintage vehicle of choice. Our daily work horse, our shopping trolley and most importantly, for this blog’s sake;
Our Vintage Vacation on wheels.


Ready	Road	Relax

In the three years we’ve had Betsy (a VW 1971 early bay low light Transporter with Dormobile conversion, if you’re interested) we’ve travelled from Dunnet Head right down to Lands End (where we broke down: the story of which I’ll save for another time; but involved a vintage cornish steam show and local radio encounter with a “rocket man” dedication)
This blog is an introduction to my love of my vintage vacations through the eyes of our recent trip to Wales.
But first of all…. let’s take a glimpse at some other vintage vacations you could enjoy (courtesy of www.vintagevacations.co.uk)…


…Meet Doris (I heart her pert stance & the deck chairs waiting patiently outside for me)	… And the Airstream Overlander 1954 interior with quilted glory and tiled floors to boot! YUM!	I adore these retro touches!… see more here

But I understand the great outdoors isn’t for everyone, so just imagine tucking yourself away in a cosy bungalow on the Isle of White like this one. I can imagine cranking up the gramophone, settling on this old sofa, pipe in mouth and cocoa in hands…

But what am I talking about? Our Wales trip was vintage vacation from start to finish in the great outdoors. From our suit cases and shopping bags …

…… through to our retro junk finds in a field near our campsite Cae Gwyn. Mackay even went back to get me more whilst I chopped dinner, and came back with these items to assist with our culinary creations… (Blue Tin Kettle and Orange Frying Pan)

I gave them a good wash in the nearby river, and we had one amazing meal after the other…

Morning……………………………………… Noon……………………………… and Night……

In retrospect, taking pictures of all my meals is a little odd; but my, my do you feel proud with the creation of a slap up meal in the pocket sized kitchen (which is the passenger seat-come-popup kitchen in our campervan)!
But it wasn’t just our food that made this holiday special. It was our experiences together exploring parts of Wales we wouldn’t necessarily stop for if it weren’t for the slow and relaxed pace of our 39 year old van..
We watched fishermen at sunset from the Gower Dunes…

… explored the medieval ruin turned Garden project at Aberglasney House

… discovered unchartered meadow territory to glimpse (and catch on camera) this Snowdonia outlook.

…and it took all these moments including 8 sunsets, 1 wild swim, 500 miles, our first helping of rain all holiday, 2 passes to the Greenman Festival (courtesy of Sparrow and the Workshop), the most amazing dish of Spaghetti Bolognese, 2 bottles of cava, and 5 years of waiting for Marcus to ask me to marry him.
I said yes.
And he even had a ring to offer me.
It is perfect. All of it.
